IOWA POLL: Most Iowans don’t want Grassely to run again, say age is a factor

DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) — The latest Iowa Poll by the Des Moines Register and Mediacom shows that most Iowans don’t want Senator Chuck Grassley to seek another term.

In the poll, 55% of Iowans say the don’t want Grassley to run in 2022, while 28% said they hope does and 17% said they were unsure.

Among Republicans polled, 35% don’t want the 87 year-old Grassley to seek a 8th term in the US Senate. If elected Grassley would be 95 when his next term ends.

Grassley, who recently told reporters he would make a decision this fall, filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission. He has not formally announced whether or not he will run.

“As I sit here right now, I think my grandfather is going to be running for reelection and I have not been led to believe anything otherwise.”

Although, another Iowa Republican seeks in Grassley’s Senate seat. Iowa Republican State Sen. Jim Carlin of Sioux City announced his US Senate bid in February.

The poll, which will be released in several parts on a number of topics, surveyed 775 Iowa adults and was conducted March 7-10 by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
